Imagination Library
Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family’s income.
How It Works
Each month, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails a high quality, age appropriate book to all registered children, addressed to them, at no cost to the child’s family. Countless parents have shared how excited their child is when their new book arrives each month. Many groups and individuals work hard behind the scenes to make that special moment possible for each child. Oakdale Rotary Club is one of those organizations.
Over 226 million FREE books gifted and counting!
Our club joined this program last year and gifted free books for 150 kids in Oakdale. Club set aside $6000 per year for this project. The enrolled kids receive a free book every month to their names, delivered to their home address, until they turn 5 years old.
How long does it take to start receiving books?
Books are mailed to almost 2 million children a month. Book orders will be placed a month in advance. Depending on when you register your child, it may take up to eight to twelve weeks for the first book to arrive. After that, the books will come monthly.
Are books age appropriate?
Yes, All books within the program are age-appropriate and are selected by early childhood experts. More information about the Book Committee can be found at www.imaginationlibrary.com and select “Choosing Our Books under your country’s menu.
Is this available only in Oakdale, CA?
In order for a program to be available in a community, there must have a local partner to cover the book and mailing cost for a specific geographic area. By having the overhead expenses covered, all of the money raised locally goes straight back into the community and allows more children to receive books each month. The Oakdale Rotary is spearheading this program locally.
